Modified root of a plant

This is a picture taken of sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes are an example of modified roots of a plant. Modified roots are when roots change their shape and become modified for support, food storage, and taking in and moving water and minerals from the soil to other parts of plants. Sweet potatoes grow underground to protect themselves from herbivores. Their roots let them absorb and transfer water and minerals to other plants.
