Modified leaf of a plant

This is a picture taken of a cactus. Most cacti have spines or scales which are modified leaves of a plant. A modified leaf of a plant is an adaptation of a plant that assists in its ability to survive and perform different functions. The spines and scales on a cactus can store water during evaporation. Normal leaves can't, and end up losing a lot of water.
